  Educational Programs at the
USC Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber:

One of the major missions of the USC Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber is to provide educational opportunities for the diving communities. These programs deal Diving Safety, Diving Accident Management, Hyperbaric Chamber Operations, Decompression Issues, etc.

To accomplish this goal the following programs are offered:

  • EDAM
    Emergency Diving Accident Management

    5 day program (Sunday - Friday) Two classes a year - Primarily classroom lectures

  • ERD
    Emergency Response Diver

    5 day program (Sunday - Friday) One class a year - Primarily hands on and in-water

  • Advanced Decompression Physiology Seminar
    2 day program (Saturday - Sunday) One class a year - In depth seminar on decompression theory and physiology

  • Mainland Chamber Crew Training Program
    2 day program (generally Saturday - Sunday) - Lecture program for potential Chamber Volunteers unable to take the 5 days off for EDAM or ERD

  • Chamber Operations Course
    2-1/2 day program (Friday - Monday) - Hand on training in Hyperbaric Chamber Operations geared primarily towards training Volunteers for our Chamber
    Prerequisites: Either EDAM, ERD, Mainland Chamber Crew Training, or equivalent training

  • Chamber Orientation Dives
    2 hours - Experience a dive in the Chamber (maximum depth: 165 fsw)
    Prerequisite: Diving/Hyperbaric Medical clearance

  • Chamber Tours
    1/2 - 1 hour - Contact us to set up tour date and time

  • Lectures for Dive Clubs and Other Groups
    Variable lengths - Contact us to set up lecture location, date and time.
    Lecture topics include:

    • Managing Diving Emergencies
    • Dive Computers
    • Decompression Theory
    • The Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber
    • Doppler Bubble Detection
    • Freediving Decompression
